AP article featured on CNN.com

Published by bryan | Filed under of interest

My buddy Matt told me there was an article on Don in our local newspaper a week earlier. While searching for it online, I came across this piece that ran on CNN.com on Thursday. Turns out the CNN piece an the article from the local paper were one and the same; an Associated Press article written after Don spoke in Orlando a few weeks ago.

Nothing really groundbreaking in the article, mostly stuff we’ve read before. Although i snickered when i read, ” Miller, who is almost disappointingly normal looking in jeans and a blue button-down shirt..” Gee, sorry to disappoint you with normal looks. I didn’t know looking normal needed to be apologized for.

i also laughed at “‘These people are absurd. I’ve been a Christian all my life and I don’t even know Christians this weird,’ said the Portland, Oregon-based writer, who is single.”
the single thing had nothing to do with the rest of the sentence, they just figured they’d throw it in there. or maybe they thought he would know people that weird if he were married?

Most people (CNN) won’t take Christian seriously unless they have a PhD. in front of their name, like we need some type of clout to be credible!?

I love the thing about Jesus being a “judge and avenger.” I just read the story of His life, and I’m pretty sure I missed the part where he judged or avenged anyone. :) All He did was save and love.

Hey…forget Match.com…just get an article on CNN and they will put your status on there for you! (I selfishly was happy to know the answer to that question though.) How funny that they felt the need to mention that he is “normal looking”…what the ? Anyway…
But about the article…I thought it was awesome to read about Donald Miller on CNN! Sure, they have to throw in the opposition…but it was just nice to see a healthy spin on Christianity represented.

I just got a copy of Don’s book at the local Goodwill of all places. I have had the misfortune in the past, to hook up with a rather militant church where we were branded as failures and called ugly names, we were also hounded late at night on the phone, to see if perhaps we were doing something unseemly to ourselves, that would “taint” the services. I was a musician on the “Praise Team”. I was later to learn that it was actually a guineau pig program to see if they could turn you into “their kind of Christian”. Needless to say, it was pretty damaging. When I read Don’s book the other day, I felt as though I will be whole and healthy again. I love Jesus, he healed my Mom when she nearly died of congestive heart failure last Summer, and she made the quickest recovery they had ever seen. Everyone was talking about it!! I have seen God work, many times. I am considering going back to church, but don’t want to do the “Prosperity gospel” thing, with the big emphasis on big houses, big cars, lots of money, huge churches and “marriages”. The single people at the weird church I went to, were persona non grata. Everyone was in a big hurry to get married, and that was all the pastor talked about. You were only “half a person,” if you weren’t, according to him, and all the single people did, was eat jello and gaze hungrily at the married couples. It was awful, and I cut out. Haven’t been back. I’m still a musician. Hiding my gift under a bushel, its’ safer there. Any thoughts on this?
