audio files and Story update

Published by bryan | Filed under journal entries

in this latest update on don’s journal, he refers to his next book as “Story, Why some people’s lives makes sense and others don’t”. Is this an official name change? Who knows :)

A number of people have asked if they can download the talks I have given around the country. On the left are the links to those downloads. I don’t get any money from them, but we do pay a web designer and an incredibly capable assistant, so know your money is going to a good cause.

As for goings on here in Portland, I am home for a couple months wrapping up a book called “Story, why some people’s lives make sense and others don’t.” The premise of the book is that the same principles screenwriters and novelists use to create great stories also work in creating great lives. The book has been fun to write, and I believe it will be out early next year. I will keep you posted.

I hope you are enjoying the fall. The trees are changing color here in Portland and it is, without question, my favorite time of year. All the best to you this fall.

If you’re interested in audio/video of Don’s presentation @ Men’s Roundup last month, here’s a web page with info …

I bought the DVD set for $35 @ RoundUp … I got a lot out of the 4 talks (3 by Don + 1 by John MacMurray) … and I’m using them as the basis for 2 small-group discussions … and so highly recommend them. The theme/title of the sessions was “Let Story Guide You”.

I stumbled onto “Blue Like Jazz” a few months ago — sorry it’s so late and I’m so not up to date — and I’m stunned at how God is using this book in my life to speak to me right where I am. Each chapter stuns me. I am so incredibly grateful for this book. It’s actually infusing hope into me again.

I’m a journalist (I design features pages and write outdoors copy), and part of my job now is to write a daily faith blog for our newspaper. The blog entry about “Blue Like Jazz” is going up on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 24, on the newspaper’s Web site, and I’ve included a link to this site as well.

The newspaper’s Web site (circulation 45,000 in West Tennessee, between Memphis and Nashville) gets about 3 million hits a month, and as of September, I was up to about 2,500 hits a month by unique visitors on the faith blog. I’ve been writing it since June.

So I hope it will drive traffic to this site and encourage others to read this book and other books by Donald Miller. I’m asking for the other books I found yesterday at Books-A-Million for Christmas.

    Dear Don,
I have been A Christian for many years but have read little that has brought as much life to my soul as your writings in “Blue Like Jazz”. Thank you for being so real. I imagine that it took a great deal of courage to “undress” your insides in front of friends, family and strangers. Be encouraged. God goes with you.
