Let Story Guide You, coming soon
Published by bryan | Filed under book news
So we’ve all been eagerly anticipating the release of A Map of Eden, the book that Don has been working on for quite some time now about his friend Adam Bybee. The latest we had heard was that it was in the editing/re-writing process and that it was going to be released in 2008.
Then, this weekend at donmillerwords.com, Don made official what we’d heard rumors of recently:
I will be reading yet-to-be published material from my new book “Let Story Guide You” on July 20th at Sip and Kranz Coffee in the Pearl. If you happen to be in Portland, it promises to be a good evening with food and wine and quality literature. And it’s for a terrific cause, The Belmont Foundation. We’ve launched our Board of Directors and will begin mentoring kids in September. If you come, consider helping us with a monthly donation, but come regardless.
For more information, let’s check the press release:
There will be a Friends of Belmont fund raiser on July 20th from 7:00P.M. to 9:00P.M. at Sip and Kranz coffee lounge in Portland. Hors d’oeuvres will be served and the evening will feature music from local artists, a silent auction and a reading from Donald Miller’s new book, “Let Story Guide You” (January 2008). For many this event will serve as an introduction to The Belmont Foundation, a not-for-profit mentoring program responding to the American crisis of fatherlessness. Please join us for what we think will be a delightful evening.
When: July 20th 2007
Where: Sip and Kranz Coffee Lounge. Corner of 10th and Kearny NW Portland
Why: to raise money and support for Belmont Foundation
Who: -Music from Adam Smouse and other local artists
-Reading from Donald Miller
-silent auction
So to sum up, the next Don Miller book hitting shelves will be Let Story Guide You, it looks like it is slated for a January 2008 release, and he is going to start doing some readings from the book this month. (UPDATE: Don’s bio page says that Let Story Guide You will be out in late 2007 or early 2008)
Think you’ve heard the name before? Well, Don has been delivering a lecture by the same name for the past year or so. (The lecture used to be for sale at Don’s audio store, but it is surprisingly absent now. Looks like you can still purchase it here). Here’s how Don explained the “Let Story Guide You” lecture earlier this year:
…In the lecture I discuss the editing principles writers use when they edit a screenplay and how these same principles can be used to help people make sense of their lives. In place of creeds, God provide stories. Story is a powerful tool to teach us the positive and negative charges of life, and to help us identify what is truly worthwhile to pursue, and what is foolish. Story is more powerful, in fact, than rules or principles…”
We hope to get some exclusive info on Let Story Guide You here on the fan site in the coming weeks, so stay tuned…
