leave comments for Don

Up until now, the only place you could leave a comment/question for Don was over there in the “Ask Don a Question” thread. Comments left anywhere else on the site didn’t make it to Don’s eyes.
Today that is changing slightly.
Starting today, all comments left on posts marked “Journal Entries” will get to Don. He’d like to get more feedback on his journals, and possibly even interact with y’all in the comments to some of his thoughts. This won’t work with old journal entries, just ones dated after 12JUN07.
(you’ll know if the comments will get to him because he’ll be listed as the post author, as opposed older journal entries which list me, bryan, as the author)
So be on the lookout for Don’s Journal Entries, and provide him with all the feedback he could ever want. You can even start with today’s entry about Blue Like Jazz, the Movie.

Hi Don,
Comments? Love the journal thing. Heard you at Willow Creek and was blown away by how real you were and what a new spin on life, what is your story. Bought the book Blue Like Jazz…it’s like a cross between reading a diary and an add on a dating site…totally love it. I have purchased multiple copies of your book to pass on to my friends who won’t go to church as well as the webcast from Willow.
It is so refreshing to hear you put into words what I’ve always felt..so many areas that I was like , that’s me! pretty awesome. When I read what you had the husband say to the wife in polaroids.. I had a hard time believing I was reading from the same author.
Funny, I recently just discoverd Patty Griffin, on Austin City Limits and immediately downloaded a bunch of her tunes… and then I read that line about listening to Patty Griffin.
Anyways … I could ramble on but don’t want to take up your time.. wish you had a way to email.. much more to say.

I’m excited for you, about the Blue Like Jazz movie! However, I must disagree that any movie anywhere is better than the book it is based on or inspired by. You are a gifted writer - and a gifted writer elicits emotion, paints pictures with words and puts faces to characters. It’s rare that the film industry captures what a writer makes me see. With that being said, I still hope marvelous things for you. I have purchased six copies of Blue Like Jazz to date, giving five away and loaning one out…of course, I’m not sure who has it or if I’ll ever see it again, but that’s ok. I read it four times. I subsequently purchased To Own a Dragon, which our Worship Team drummer has, Through Painted Deserts and Searching for God Knows What, which a friend of mine also purchased at my urging and we were discussing excitedly as I read the second time. A friend bought me Prayer and the Art of Volkswagen Maintenance as a gift. I struggle to see the differences in that and Through Painted Deserts, as it has been a while and I’ve read Searching for God Knows What since.
Any way, I ramble - I do hope GRAND things for your movie take off and appreciate your writing gift. I need to look for your tour schedule again, I’d love to hear you real-time.

Hey,
I heard you speak at the Willow Creek Arts conference. I was captivated. Your style was cool, smooth, humorus, and itellectual. I purchased Blue Like Jazz while at the conference. I have completed it and can’t wait to read some more of your work. You spoke at Willow on Wed night about letting story guide you. It has inspired me more than you can know. Thank you for what you do.

Don,
I really don’t know anything about you other than the information I’ve taken in by reading “Blue Like Jazz” (actually listening to it in the car). So this may seem a little goofy but hang in there with me. I know the woman you are supose to meet and hopefully marry. Seriously! She lives in Canada and just happens to be in Africa right now working at an orphanage but she’ll be back and she’s your girl trust me. I know this because I’ve known her for 20+ years. We’re both MK’s and met while attending bible college in Canada years ago. Seriously pray about this my friend and get back to me if you are just slightly interested. Take a chance and crawl outside of your proper skin! You won’t be disappointed.

Don - I heard you speak in San Antonio at the WOF conference…I must admit I was impressed by your wisdom and depth of understanding of God’s word for one so young.
I appreciated your humor! Christian people (especially women) don’t laugh enough these days…
I liked Blue Like Jazz - thanks for being so honest in your reflections - and thanks for pointing a lost world to the only answer and hope found in the person of Jesus Christ!
Blessings from Texas!
