Hey Don,
Thanks for this post Monday! I didn’t read it until Thursday morning and it helped give me the urge to do what I’ve been wanting to do for a while, go visit the Blood:Water Mission office. I’m only about an hour from there and thought I’d go up on my day off. I was able to go meet Adrian and Jena and talk with them for a bit. It was great to hear that 58 wells have already been built, just 942 left to go, or roughly $282,600 to $2,826,000 left to be raised to reach the 1000 mark - that is if each well costs between $300 to $3,000 to build. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing. I recently received my copy of TOAD from Burnside, so I’m working on getting through it as I finish up Jesus in the Margins and also a John Piper book.
Take care, Chris
Chris,
I’m delighted you got to meet Jena. I don’t believe I’ve met Adrian yet, but hope to the next time I’m in Nashville. The folks at Bloodwater are doing a remarkable job, so it’s cool that you got to meet them in person. If anybody else wants info about Bloodwater, or to contribute to their work building clean water wells, do visit them at www.bloodwatermission.org Thanks Chris!

Don,
I’m glad to see your post and response to help urge the support of BloodWater. You know, looking at the numbers in my message to you, if those numbers represent the total cost for 1,000 wells in Africa, then as a nation we should be ashamed if this goal is not reached by this time next year. All across America we are raising money to build new buildings, new facilities just becuase they’re more attractive than what we may have already. If we can find the financial support for such projects, then why not for wells. One example I’ll throw out there is, what is the point in building a new stadium for the New York Yankees while Yankee Stadium is just fine. The millions of dollars that will go into such a project could build well over 1,000 wells in Africa. Instead of providing a new and attrative enviroment for baseball, why not build something that is going to bring life to a country and many nations! Let the Yankees, and every other professional sports team, do that. Please don’t get the feeling that I am attacking the sports world…it pays my bills, I see first hand the call for $$$ for new facilities that are atractive in bettering our way here, but at the same time, the money could go to greater needs, or possibly true needs and merely wants.

I’ve just finished reading SFGKW & BLJ…you’ve become my favorite Christian wrtiter. You summary of the gospel on p.124 of BLJ raised this question: If we could view the gospel from a historical rather than conditional perspective, wouldn’t that keep us from making it “bad news” rather that Good News? It seems to me that when we see the gospel as historical (God reconciled the world to Himself through Jesus on the cross), it is wonderful good news to everyone. When we see the gospel as conditional (God has made it possible for us to be rescued, but we have to make the right decision and confirm that decision with appropriate behavior), it isn’t good news for anyone…just look at the lives of so many who have been “born again” through this approach.
I know you’re busy, but I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

[...] if you’ve been here for any length of time you know that Don is a big supporter of the folks at Blood:Water Mission. We here at donmillerfans.net are also supporters of this important ministry that is meeting the physical needs of our brothers and sisters in Africa by supplying them with fresh water wells. [...]
