?? love your flawed writing ??

Published by bryan | Filed under Don Answers your ???s

don,

i’m just about to finish “searching for God knows what.” fantastic book…it’s totally changed how i look at Jesus, in a lot of ways. the “morality” chapter was especially cool for me…i write a monthly “faith and culture” column at the newspaper i work for, and i’ve been trying to say for a year and a half what you expressed so perfectly in that chapter.

now, then. i REALLY hope i don’t sound like a jerk when i say this, so please show me some grace if i do…but the people who copy edit your work miss some stuff. there’s one place in the book where the word “fullproof” is used, instead of “fool-proof.” and later, the book uses the word “elude” instead of “allude,” or something along those lines…i don’t have it in front of me, so i can’t remember exactly. anyway, i only bring it up because i’d hate for a few easily averted mistakes to affect someone’s opinion of your work, or their openness to what you have to say.

again, PLEASE don’t think i’m a jerk…i’m seriously a big fan of your work. can’t wait to read whatever comes next…God bless!

Jarrod,

You’re a real champ for pointing this out. I’m terrible at mixing words, misspelling and that sort of thing, and so even though a team of people are assigned to come after me and clean a book up, they never catch everything. I will let the powers that be know about the errors, but until they get fixed, thank you so much for pointing them out! And for being smart enough to notice! Thanks again…

    Hey Don,

I think there’s also a typo in Blue Like Jazz on page 179, where it says “died” but should be spelled “dyed” since it’s referring to dying hair. I actually don’t own a copy of the book, but I borrowed my friends and I had to give it back to her recently, so I hope that’s right. I just wrote it down because I’m slightly neurotic. I don’t know if it helps to know the typos, but just in case it does, I thought I’d letcha know.

Oh and I should say, and I feel like a complete idiot for not saying in my previous comment, that I LOVE your book so, so, so, so much. I literally couldn’t put it down. It is so beautiful and challenging. Thank you so much! Your words mean a lot to me.
