?? sharing BLJ in Lit Class ??
Published by bryan | Filed under Don Answers your ???s
Donald,
I for one want to thank you for your books that have changed my way of thinking from a Christian perspective. I couldn’t imagine the things I am now experiencing before I ever read your books concerning the Christian faith. I especially consider “Blue like Jazz†to be my favorite. I’m in an AP Literature class in high school and I have to give a book talk on our outside reading, so… I want to give one on “Blue like Jazz.†I’m a little sketchy about giving it because, you know, some people just don’t want to hear it, but I want to give it anyway not only to get a good grade but to hopefully plant that seed in someone in the room to know God. I’m very nervous about doing it, how humiliating it will be to talk about God. not necessarily preaching the word, but in a sense of explaining how the Christian faith is the way. I’ll probably receive “rolling eyes†throughout the room; however, I know I’ll feel much better going out of my comfort zone for God, going out to talk about Christian spirituality about your book. I just wanted to ask… What would you do?
Javier,
Not sure if its too late on this one. But I would definitely be wary of the eye-roll factor. But one thing that will keep that from happening, to some degree, is just to share why your heart resonated with the book, and then talk about what it feels like to be a Christian, the parts that you like, the parts that scare you, and so on. You will be amazed at how kind people really are when you share your heart. But you are right, it really is a scary thing to do…All the best to you, and thanks for the very kind words…
Don
